Former JDL Leadership Launches B’nai Elim

B’nai Elim (literally “Sons of the Mighty” (from Psalm 29)) was launched this week by former Jewish Defense League Leadership; Matt Finberg, Robert Turk, Jim Nutting, Ian Sigel, and Bill Maniaci. The Jewish Defense League, Inc., a Colorado Corporation will cease doing business on or before April 30, 2006.

The modern day Maccabees or “The Maccabee Group” as they are known, had long recognized the need to leave the JDL in order to advance their commitment to the Jewish People and to foster greater Jewish pride and identity.

To continue their dedication to the defense of the Jewish People, and to further their intelligence gathering capabilities, it was necessary to remove themselves and their membership from the common adverse perception carried by the Jewish Defense League (JDL), which does not apply to them, or to B’nai Elim.

B'nai Elim will work diligently to build Jewish self-esteem in men, women, and children. Matthew Finberg, the Chairman of B’nai Elim said “we intend to provide Jewish education and activist programs which will enhance Jewish security and identity. We are religious/nationalist Zionists in the spirit of and with admiration for the Hilltop Youth, and we are avid supporters of Eretz Israel.”

Robert Turk, Deputy Director of B’nai Elim, emphasized the fact that he and his colleagues “are inspired by the teachings of Rabbi Meir Kahane, ZT"L, HY"D, Reb Binyamin Kahane, ZT”L, HY”D, and the Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem M. Schneersohn, ZT”L. We will always remember, and join in spirit with, the great Zev Jabotinsky, ZT”L, his followers, and his message.”

Bill Maniaci, Chief of Intelligence and Security, and Ian Sigel, Director of the Mid-Western Region, are the two leaders with the most years of JDL service under their belts. They point out that this is no pie in the sky start-up operation. “Our members have been protecting Jewish communities since 1968. B'nai Elim members will routinely place themselves between their Brothers and Sisters and those who would do them harm.”

B’nai Elim will initiate a wide variety of actions against the declared enemies of the Jewish People, including gathering timely and accurate intelligence and sharing that information with law enforcement and other governmental agencies. Jim Nutting, Western Regional Director, stated that “we will stand and directly face, anti-Semitism, and combat it whenever, and wherever necessary.”

The members of B’nai Elim live by the five principles identified by Rabbi Meir Kahane: Ahavat Yisroel – Love of the Jewish People, indivisible and united; Hadar - Pride in Jewish tradition, history, and culture; Barzel - Courage and an iron will; Mishmaat - Discipline, dedication, and unity; and Bitachon - Faith in the Lord G_d of Israel.
