Praise the Lord & pass the ammunition
Today as we remember the anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor there is an important lesson we Jews can learn from the amazing American reaction.
On that day the Japanese bombarded the United States Navy Base sinking the entire Pacific Fleet and killing thousands of sailors and civilians.
Leading up to the massive attack the Japanese were on a “shopping spree” in South East Asia taking over Pacific Islands and the China’s coast line killing hundreds of thousands.
Were there voices at that time that said, “Well it’s only Hawaii, its not so important, we don’t really need it, and it is so far away, if we give it away the Japanese will make peace with us.”
According to my Grandpa Max the answer was NO! The American people were instantly, involved and committed to winning the War.
In 1941, the American people united around this single event to achieve a single goal, to protect democracy. At the time every American industry and person was pressed into service. Ships, rifles and uniforms were produced in record numbers. Patriotism was the fuel for this tremendous effort.
Every day in Israel and around the world there is a potential Pearl Harbor, but today’s conflict concerns not only our lives but our connection to our heritage, our Land, and our G-d.
Instead of using a thousand fighters on one day, the tactic the enemy uses is one fighter a day for a thousand days. We must understand that each act of terrorism that we see is only a physical manifestation of an invisible spiritual war. And that we should not blame our enemies for they are only the stick not the hand that swings them.
If we want Total Victory we must use every resource to win. The weapons that will bring us peace are not only ships and planes, but our culture of education, the secure borders of Israel and the study of our Torah.
We must be a unified Army of G-d in order to defeat these forces of darkness and not retreat or surrender from our responsibilities or our Land.
G-d willing we should know true and lasting peace soon,
Capt. Elie A. Fouere
