Jewish Defence League of Canada Open Letter to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Regarding Funding for Anti Israel Conference
TORONTO, June 21 /CNW/ -
To whom it may concern; I was very disappointed to read that your ministry is providing funding for the Anti Israel Conference that York University is sponsoring. It is the position of the Jewish Defence League of Canada that no funding from tax payers money should go to this conference. There is consensus in the Jewish Community that this conference negates Jewish Rights and that is a fundamental violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights. Your department stated the following: "The grant holder has informed SSHRC that the changes in conference programming since November 2008 are minor and that the aims of the event remain unchanged in their essence. The Dean of Osgoode Hall of Law School, and the Vice-President Research and Innovation at York University agree with him. SSHRC has accepted their assurance that planning for the conference is proceeding in a manner consistent with provisions of the Grant Holder's Guide for the program." A similar conference just took place last week in South Africa with the participation of Bruce Ryder from Osgoode Law School.
