Message for Rosh Hashanah 5770 From The Jewish Defence League of Canada
...plus next week's discussion/movie night ..free security training night
Dear Meir,
The Shulchan Aruch - code of Jewish law states "For the Shofar on Rosh Hashanah it is a mitzvah to use a bent horn coming from a ram; it is forbidden to use a horn from a cow or a Shofar coated from within with gold..." All sounds blown forth from the Shofar are kosher, thus if it was a thick sound, a thin sound or a very dry sound - it is kosher. However...if it was a weak sound that was sounded, the listener did not fulfill his obligation to hear Shofar blown." The purpose of the shofar is to awaken Jews Jews to repentance (Rambam, Laws of Teshuvah, 3:4). Every Jewish Leader is obligated to blow the Shofar and awaken the Jewish People from their slumber. It is now time to reflect. This past year, the Jewish Defence League did awaken the Jews of Canada. All anti Jewish/Israel groups were confronted and the masses applauded our efforts. The Jewish Defence League was the first group to alert the community to the dangers of the anti Israel conference sponsored by York University. Also, we were the first group to alert the Government of Canada to the plans of Hamas supporter George Galloway and he was barred from entry. We also travelled to Windsor to confront Sid Ryan and CUPE at their anti Israel conference. We were also the only Jewish group that help a counter protest against two pro Hamas assemblies in Downtown Toronto durring Israel's war on Terror when they entered Gaza. And we confronted those anti Jewish/Israel groups that called for a boycott of Israel wines and the showing of the Dead Sea Scrolls and most recently, the Toronto International Film Festival's films from Israel. The Jewish Defence League restored Jewish Pride and we need you to support as now more than ever. Please, we need stronger monetary contributions to make our message louder in the new year 5770. And the Year 5770 will be a very active year for the Jewish Defence League. Founded in 2005, the IID is a non-partisan, student-led forum designed to engage all members of the Ryerson University community on major events and issues in contemporary global affairs through reasoned, objective, and scholarly discourse. Throughout the Fall the IID will be presenting some of the top speakers in the world on various dimensions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Our first guest is Dr. Juan Cole, Professor of History at University of Michigan, whose talk is entitled "Palestinian Statelessness at the Heart of the Mideast Crisis." This has been a very proud year for me. I had the honour to lead the JDL up the mountain as we confronted anti Jewish/Israel hate. And every member of the JDL is special and helped inspire our community. I want to wish all of our members and supporters a sweet year. May G-d answer all your prayers and bless our people with self respect as the G-d's Chosen People.
