What appears to be the last day of Sukkos, and what in the Diaspora/Exile is the "second" day of Shmini Atzeres, is called Simchas Torah, literally "the joy of/over Torah." On every Sabbath during the year we read a parsha from the Torah. Simchas Torah is the day we complete the cycle by reading the final Parsha in the Torah, which is known as "V'zos HaBracha." Additionally, Simchas Torah marks the renewal of the cycle as we begin again with the first Parsha in the Torah, which is known as "B'raishis."
The central theme of this holiday is our rejoicing over the Torah and our completion of the Torah. And the most pressing question is--did we internalize the meaning of each parsha that we read? Are we as individuals and as a people better committed Jews. Do we grasp the issues and challenges. Has our Jewish Leadership changed for the better? A secret government list of the country's top terrorist threats says al-Qaeda-inspired extremists remain active in Canada and are willing and able to carry out attacks.
"AQ's Islamist extremist ideology continues to inspire individuals in Canada," says the classified Intelligence Assessment. "AQ-inspired groups and individuals present a threat of terrorist attack in Canada."
The report indicates that, long after police arrested 18 suspects around Toronto for allegedly plotting "al-Qaeda-inspired" shootings and bombings, such extremists remain a central security concern.

Rafeef Ziadah - anti-Israel activist based in Toronto, works for SUSTAIN (Stop U.S. Tax-Funded Aid to Israel Now), member of the "Coalition against Israeli Apartheid" which supports BDS (boycotts, divestment and sanctions), writes for "Electronic Intifada". Ziadah uses demonizing language that refers to Israel as a settler-colonial project with a "system of apartheid", and participated in the York University Israeli Apartheid Week.
