In commemoration of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks on America. The United American Committee will hold a rally featuring a mock hanging of Osama bin Laden on Sunday, September 10th in front of the King Fahd Mosque in Culver City California at 10980 Washington Blvd beginning at 4:00 PM.
CULVER CITY, CA – September 06, 2006 - Among numerous events across the nation to commemorate 9-11, one event in the Los Angeles area will feature a mock hanging of Osama bin Laden, and will give attendees an opportunity to throw old shoes at the effigy. The hitting or throwing of shoes at a person or object is one of the greatest insults within the Islamic world. One aspect of this event which is also unique is the location; The event, organized by the United American Committee, will take place in front of the King Fahd Mosque at 10980 Washington Blvd. in Culver City, California.
Placing pressure on the leading figures of the American Islamic community, last month the United American Committee issued a challenge to all patriotic American Muslim leaders to issue an Islamic verdict, known as a fatwa, condemning Osama bin Laden and other terrorists by name. With over forty days since the issuance of the challenge, the fatwa has not been declared. The UAC has brought the challenge to several Islamic organizations such as the Council on American Islamic Relations (C.A.I.R.), as well as to many Islamic mosques nationwide. One mosque in particular which stands out among those who decline to entertain the idea of issuing a fatwa is the King Fahd Mosque in Culver City, California. Two of the 9/11 hijackers, Nawaf al Hazmi, and Khalid al Mihdhar, upon their arrival in America promptly made the King Fahd mosque the center of their lives, the base from which they received assistance, made friends, and could find moral reinforcement until carrying out their horrific attack in New York City.
The King Fahd mosque also produced other terrorists including Sgt. Akbar, the soldier who threw grenades at his fellow GIs early into the Iraq war, an attack which left two dead and fourteen injured. In addition to those facts, Fahad al Thumairy who was a leader of the mosque, known as an Immam, was indicted on terrorism charges and eventually deported from the United States. According to the United American Committee, the mosque continues to preach extremist rhetoric and works to embolden those who wish to destroy the American way of life.
The UAC is no stranger to engaging in controversial activities, in February of this year they held a panel discussion at the University of California at Irvine entitled 'The Unveiling of the Cartoons' which contained a display of the controversial Danish cartoons depicting the Islamic prophet Mohammad which were the center of numerous riots throughout the world. Critics of the event held protests outside the venue which was packed to capacity, and the event received international media attention.
The Southern California event featuring a hanging of bin Laden will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 10th at 10980 Washington Blvd. in Culver City, California in the West Los Angeles area. The UAC states that as always, pro-democratic Muslim Americans are more than welcome to join this event.
