Blogmaster’s rant: I am old fashioned, I’m a Chabadnik and reasonably religious, I am a dedicated Zionist, I believe that not one centimeter of Jewish land should be relinquished for any reason, I believe that the “Two State Solution” means the death of Israel as a Jewish Homeland and a Jewish State. I also had a grievous personality fault…I tended to trust other American Jews to do what is right for Israel and our people. I have learned a hard lesson…I have learned to trust no one who voted for Obama, to trust no one who espouses drivel such as what we hear from “Peace Now” and others of their ilk, and to trust no one who, as a Jew, would support measures and ideals that would be contrary to what is best for Israel as a Jewish State.
In my opinion, the wealthy, influential American and Israeli Jews listed below are lower than whale dreck on the ocean floor. They are no better than the Judenrat or the spies that returned to inform Moshe that Israel was not as Hashem had promised. Throughout our history, we have been plagued by collaborationists such as these modern-day Hellenists. With the help of Hashem, we have always prevailed and we will do so again. 1. What does "We've Got Your Back" mean?
It’s important that the President know that a resounding majority of American Jews want a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and are willing to see the U.S. take a tough stance – nearly 70%, in fact, support the U.S. publicly disagreeing with Israeli or Arab positions, or exerting pressure on both parties to make compromises, if it will help resolve the conflict. http://www.jstreet.org/files/images/J_Street_Survey_Analysis_032309.doc]
For Brit Tzedek, “we’ve got your back” means that President Obama does not have only the passive support of the organization and our grassroots advocates. We are actively committed to helping him bring his policy goals to fruition, getting the word out and winning hearts and minds. The President has said that he wants a two-state solution by the end of his first term – Brit Tzedek will help face down naysayers, and provide him with the political breathing room and active assistance he’ll need.

2. What can the U.S. do if the Israelis and Palestinians don’t respond positively to President Obama's efforts?
Clearly, any peace deal will have to be struck between the two parties. No one can force Israelis and Palestinians to accept an agreement they don’t want. However, there’s a difference between forcing an agreement, and using the U.S. government’s powers of persuasion. A powerful example can be seen in the success of the 1998 Irish peace talks, mediated by former Senator George Mitchell, who serves currently as the Special Envoy to the Middle East.
By deploying talented, dedicated people to the region – Mitchell has gone several times, Secretary of State Clinton has been, envoys have been sent to Syria – and empowering them to achieve agreement, President Obama has signaled that he’s serious about achieving a two-state resolution by the end of his first term. This seriousness demonstrates that the parties have a real ally in the effort to end the violence, and also serves notice that the U.S. is no longer willing to accept an endless cycle of destruction.
On both sides, a majority of ordinary people have consistently said that they want a two-state solution. Many Israeli and Palestinian politicians, intellectuals, military experts, and cultural icons agree. The positions of a particular government aren’t necessarily a reflection of the peoples’ willingness to achieve peace. If the U.S. invests fully in diplomacy, encourages cooperation, and helps to clarify that only peace can bring true security, America can serve a crucial role in turning the reality around.
3. Can individuals pledging really make a difference in political policy?
It’s not the pledge itself, so much as the actions to which you pledge yourself. It’s very easy to do nothing when it seems nothing can be done. But by committing yourself to action, you’ll join your voice to Jewish Americans across the country who want to see a peaceful resolution of the conflict, and want the U.S. to take a leading role in finding that resolution. For decades, American politicians have believed that American Jews line up behind official Israeli policy and are unwilling to consider a two-state peace accord with the Palestinians. Writing to Congress, taking part in Action Alerts, writing to newspapers and blogging your opinions – all this informs our leaders that many support the new policy direction, and changes the tone of the discourse. Reaching out to friends and family expands the circle of advocates who will work to achieve a real solution.
4. What can Congress do to influence foreign policy?
Congress approves our national budget, and this carries enormous weight. For instance, if the administration wants to direct funds to monitoring implementation of a new agreement, it won’t be able to without Congressional approval. Furthermore, Congress represents the people: If it rejects an Israeli-Palestinian peace process, the administration will understand that it doesn’t have either the political or popular support it needs to act. The recent sea-change in Congressional attitudes has played an important role in giving the Obama administration the political room to voice its policy plans, and if this momentum gains, the openness to diplomacy will also grow.
5. Does Obama really pay attention to the grassroots?
Yes, he does, in particular with regards to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Brit Tzedek has been advocating with Barack Obama from his days as a Senator, and our members and national leaders often turned to him to express their thoughts on the conflict during his campaign. Representatives of the Obama campaign met with Brit Tzedek prior to the election, and during the transition period.
Among the first actions the President took post-inauguration were many that Brit Tzedek had urged for years, and he’s often used language that echoes Brit Tzedek’s positions. He has consistently made it clear that he wants to hear from the individuals who make up the American electorate, and has shaped policy responsive to the needs he’s heard.
6. Who can sign the pledge?
The pledge is geared toward American Jews, but any American who supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is encouraged to sign, and join in our advocacy.
7. Why is the pledge targeted to Jews?
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has long been at the center of American Jewish discourse. Many American politicians have assumed that if they express anything but complete support for official Israeli positions, we would turn against them. As such, our input has far more weight than our numbers would indicate – and American Jewish peace advocates have got to make it clear the majority of our community actually supports a two-state solution, including the possibility of pressure on Israel to achieve such a solution

The Annapolis conference, if successful in terms of finalizing plans for a two-state solution to the Israeli - Palestinian conflict, will jeopardize Israel’s prospects for survival and pave the way for the emergence of another deadly terrorist state. Perhaps, the myopic architects of this ill-conceived initiative simply failed to comprehend the long-term consequences of their plans. Perhaps, their intentions and motivations were such that they didn’t. In any case, not only Israel but America has much to lose if agreements forge ahead as planned.

The State of Israel, from its very founding, was known for its rigid stance of refusing to negotiate with terrorists, period. Israeli Prime Minister Olmert’s “peace at any cost” initiative not only undermines this basic premise but is Chamberlainesque at best, devoid of logic, and ignores the bloody lessons of history. According to the plan, it is Israel that makes all the concessions by relinquishing its rights to Eastern Jerusalem and the West Bank - meaning the biblical territories of Judea and Samaria. As a pre-summit good-will gesture, Olmert consented to freeing over 400 Palestinian terrorists with no discussion regarding the fate and /or release of Israeli soldiers being held captive.

To top it off, Olmert approved the transfer of armored vehicles, rifles and ammunition to the Palestinian authority – a decision that was condemned by both Shin Bet Security Forces and the IDF. The entire package is being offered, by Israel, in exchange for nothing more than a promise of peace! As drafted, this skewed agreement certainly begs the question as to how Israel’s purported peace partner, Mahmoud Abbas, is expected to hold up his end of the bargain in light of the threat posed, to his governance, by Hamas.
According to Hamas spokesmen, it will only be a matter of time before they seize control of the West Bank, as they did Gaza, and secure those weapons slated for transfer to the Palestinian Authority. The realization of Hamas’ ambitions would place key Israeli cities in harm’s way. As if the Iranian nuclear threat and Hezbollah’s entrenchment to the north weren’t enough for Israel to contend with, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem would now fall within rocket range of Hamas-controlled territories.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has far less to do with territorial disputes than it does with bringing about the destruction of Israel and genocide against the Jewish people. Arguably, it is only Israel that craves a long-standing peace with its neighbors. The Palestinian leadership’s primary objective is to satisfy their Islamist brethren by annihilating the Jewish state.

Regardless of Condi Rice’s recent statements, Hamas is not a resistance movement but a ruthless terrorist organization that’s responsible for leaving hundreds of maimed and dead innocents in its wake. As evidenced by its very Charter, Hamas will never recognize Israel’s legitimacy, calls for the murder of innocent Jews, and poses a significant threat to the West. Few Americans are aware of the threat that Hamas poses to our way of life. Even fewer know that charitable American organizations such as the Lions Club, Rotary Club and Free Masons have been targeted for destruction by Hamas.

Hamas, aka the Islamic Resistance Movement, was initially established as a wing of the Muslim Brotherhood or Ikhwan – a secretive, sinister society with far reaching tentacles. In fact, most Islamic terrorist groups including al Qaeda were seeded by the Muslim Brotherhood. The Ikhwan, with an established presence in over 70 countries, has targeted the world, including Israel, Europe and the United States, for Islamic conquest and domination. Their mission is to establish a Muslim Caliphate in servitude to their moon god. A partial list of known degenerates radicalized by the Ikhwan would include Osama bin Laden’s deputy, Ayman Zawahiri: the blind Sheik who was convicted for his role in the 1993 WTC bombing, Omar Abdel Rahman; and the architect of the 9/11 attacks, Khalid Sheik Mohammed.

The Brotherhood’s stated approach to conquering the United States is through dawah – Islamic renewal and outreach. Their program titled, ‘Ikhwan in America’ details a 20-point plan though which they intend to replace our Republic with an Islamist state ruled by Sharia law. A key excerpt of the plan reads: The process of settlement is a ‘Civilization-Jihadist process’. The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western Civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.
Covertly, through its network of affiliated organizations, the Brotherhood sponsors camps that promote paramilitary training – that’s right, they provide survival classes and weapons training to their loyal followers on own soil - thereby, honing the destructive skills of those intending to do us grievous harm through violent Jihad. As a case in point, another radical wing of the Brotherhood, the Muslim Students Association or MSA has established branches on hundreds of college campuses across America. Thousands of Saudi funded, hate-infused mosques across North America were constructed due to their efforts. The National MSA’s online journal (publication #17) instructs its student members to learn survival skills and secure firearms training. The directive goes on to state that if such training is unavailable, in their particular location, or cost prohibitive, Muslim students should take up paintball which it advocates as an excellent way to learn about combat. It’s far from coincidence that the Virginia Jihad Network, the 7/7 London bombers and many other terrorist cells have conducted paramilitary training with paintball.

Due to blackouts and the deliberate manipulation of the facts by mainstream media outlets, the majority of Americans have been kept in the dark with respect to the Islamist threat. Additionally, our citizenry has been deceived by Washington’s embrace of Islam as being a religion of peace. Characterizing Islam as the religion of rest in peace would be far more fitting. Federal Law enforcement agencies have also contributed greatly to widespread ignorance, of the subject matter, by reclassifying numerous terrorist attacks that we’ve suffered as being something other than jihadi-inspired. In the long run, our politically-correct posturing coupled with widespread apathy will cost us dearly for our societal infrastructure has already been infiltrated, by our enemies, to a degree far beyond Joseph Goebbels’s wildest expectations.

It’s time for our government set the record straight. Classifying the current war as one against terrorism is a misnomer at best. We are actually engaged in a struggle against a religious ideology with political aspirations. Terrorism is nothing more than an effective tool employed to undermine the resolve of civilized nations. Our deadly enemy might be fixated with a 7th century mentality but it is armed with the latest technology and most sophisticated implements of warfare.

Since 9/11, over 10,060 terrorist attacks against innocents have been reported. All of which have involved Islam. Islamic-inspired violence transcends all international borders. From Kashmir to the Sudan, from Indonesia to Argentina, from Chechnya to France and from the Balkans to Australia; one would be hard pressed to find a major conflict, war, or act of aggression that doesn’t involve Islam. This, in itself, serves as undeniable proof that the abhorrent behavior is not linked to an underlying hatred of the West, the United States or Israel.

The realization that a major world religion would support the long-term geo-political objectives of ruthless terrorist organizations – in particular, by advocating world domination through violent conquest and / or genocide against those of other faiths, is troubling at best.

For decades, the State of Israel has served us well – both as testing ground for high-tech weaponry and as the proverbial canary in our coal mine. The two-state solution being proposed at today’s summit will render Israel defenseless in the face of our common enemies – something that we’d certainly live to regret.

“We can rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us… I have the premonition that will not leave me: as it goes for Israel so will it go with all of us. Should Israel Perish, the holocaust will be upon us.”

Knesset member Benny Elon recently introduced a far more viable plan for bringing long-term peace to the region. His “Israeli Initiative” calls for dissolving the Palestinian Authority, dismantling the refuge camps and having Jordan grant citizenship status to Arabs remaining in the West Bank. Israel would extend its sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. Those Palestinians currently living in the refuge camps would be provided with rehabilitation packages and an opportunity to move to outside countries. Agency relief would be available to assist the emigrants with resettlement and employment.

Many of you argue but organizations such as Young Israel and Manhigut and others have been outspoken. The answer to your comments is that unfortunately we are all linked together by our Collective Silence. There is a universal perception of a Collective Jewish Silence even when individual organizations or individuals do speak up. It is not enough for Young Israel or Manhigut or Temple Insitute or Hebron.org or Lehavdil myself etc. to be outspoken as individual organizations or individuals. We need to create a louder voice. A Joint voice. A United Voice. We, (CAJL) have initiated to collect statements by all the like minded organizations such as Young Israel, Iggud Harabonnim, Hebron, Itamar, Kever Rochel, Manhigut Yehudit, National Union, Temple Institute, Root and Branch etc. etc. etc. to create a LOUD VOICE. Whether this is a CAJL initiative or an initiative by any other organization or individual activist, it doesn't matter. This initiative in necessary for our collective survival. Once WE unite in OUR Torah true message, the chances of influencing organizations such as OU, Agudas Yisroel and even Conference of Presidents is greater. The Evangelical Christian Right have already proclaimed the right of Jewish Sovereignty in the Land of Israel. A strong Jewish Voice combined with a strong Christian Voice will have a strong impact on White House decisions and government policies. In the absence of a United Statement based on Torah there is a perception that the majority of Jews are in agreement with the message of the United States of America which is that a Palestinian State is the way to "peace".

The Message of our enemies have been defined and broadcast LOUD and CLEAR. Their powerful voice proclaims that Israel and the Nation of Israel are occupiers. The deafening void in the Authentic Jewish Voice has created an environment that breeds the Mideast "Peace" Conference.

Individuals such as myself have taken up the challenge to attempt to unite all believers in the Torah to state our fundamental Belief in a LOUD VOICE. But our attempts is being met with fierce resistance. Even you, our closest allies and friends are resistant to state the obvious in a joint venture. Who will state it first you ask? Why this resistance to this joint venture? Beats me. I have no idea. Almost each and every one pf upi including Chareidi Rabbanim say that these points are fundamental to Torah. Perhaps there is an attitude of resignation. People say that a public Statement won't make a difference. Nobody is listening to what I or you say or even what we collectively say. It doesn't matter what we say.

Could you imagine if each voter would say that their vote doesn't make a difference and therefore what's the point of voting? I would be thrilled if others recognize the need for such an initiative and take it as their own private initiative. If only like minded people and organizations would be willing to join in a common message, we have a fighting chance. Our only chance.

Defining our Authentic Jewish Message?

There is One G-d. There is One Torah. The Land belongs to G-d. The Entire World was created by G-d. G-d has assigned the seed of Abraham. Issac and Jacob with the Biblical Mandate to be the only legitimate caretakers of the Land of Israel and with obligations to keep the Biblical Commandments associated with the Land. These givens based on the Torah are mutually exclusive with the RoadMap Plan of the Bush Administration and it's spokesperson Condeleeza Rice. One cannot truly believe these statements and work towards the establishment of a Palestinian State.

The Jewish position is that territorial concessions deny the purpose of the Nation of Israel and the Land of Israel and the Will of the Creator of the world. Territorial Concessions destroys any chance of bringing Blessings to the World. In addition, we proclaim that Temple Mount is central, fundamental and integral to the Land of Israel, and the Jewish Religion.

Temple Service is exclusive for the Priests of Israel who are the seed of Aharon and Pinchas from the Tribe of Levi . This is not a racist concept. This is Torah. No foreigners including majority of Jews are allowed into designated areas of Temple Mount. The Nation of Israel including righteous converts are the inheritors of the Land of Israel. This is not a racist idea. It is fundamental to Torah. This comes in conjunction with the underlying agreement that the Nation of Israel are obligated to keep the commandments in the Torah while all other Nations are obligated with the 7 Laws of Noach and accept Jewish Sovereignty in Israel as not only legitimate but as ideal..

We wish to collect too many to count statements claiming our legitimate rights to the Land of Israel and our opposition to any discussion of a foreign entity within the Boundaries of Eretz Yisroel. Angels wanted the Torah but Moshe asked the angels. Do you conduct business? Do you have parents? The Torah is meant to be observed on a material world, on Earth, in the Land of Israel and by human beings. Torah can not be fully observed in the desert, and not even in a Bais Medrash of Lakewood. We are imperfect humans and we need the Torah as our guide and we need material objects such as the Land of Israel in order to keep the Commandments.

Capital Punishment and Abortion

We read in the Mishna: "Therefore but a single man was created in the world, to teach that if any man has caused a single soul to perish, Scripture imputes it to him as though he had caused a whole world to perish; and if any man saves alive a single soul, Scripture imputes it to him as though he had saved alive a whole world."

To avoid misunderstanding, let me state at the outset that I do not advocate capital punishment in Israel at this time—except for Muslims or Arabs who, as members of a terrorist group, have deliberately murdered Jewish civilians in pursuance of genocide or politicide: genocide against the Jewish people, or politicide against the State of Israel.

Nor do I regard as correct the Catholic view of abortion. But there is something very curious about the liberal position on these two issues, especially by liberals who not only advocate the American practice of "abortion on demand," but who also justify abortion for economic or social or psychological reasons in contradistinction to reasons involving the mother’s life.

Among the arguments against capital punishment is the contention that society has no right to take the life even of the most savage murderer. Yet many if not most opponents of capital punishment assert the right of a woman to terminate even full term pregnancies, hence to snuff out, with the aid of a physician, the life of her unborn child. Murderers would thus be spared while the innocent would be murdered.

Our liberals have become so "humane" and "progressive." They feel compassion, perhaps some responsibility, for those who have taken life, but not for those who have just begun to live. Without a twinge of moral doubt or remorse, they execute the unborn and condemn as cruel and barbaric the execution even of serial murderers. CONTINUED

We are witnessing a state-sanctioned incitement to genocide, whose epicenter is Mahmoud Ahmadinezhad’s Iran, where the toxic advocacy of the most horrific of crimes is embedded in the most virulent of hatreds—anti-semitism.

This eliminationist hatred of Jews is propelled by a desire to acquire nuclear weapons for the stated purpose of eliminating Israel “in one single storm.” Iran’s leaders have not hid their intentions. Indeed, in any number of ways, they have already shown us the methods and means of their plan.

They have paraded in the streets of Tehran a Shihab-3 missile draped in the emblem “wipe Israel off the map.” They have denied the European Holocaust as they incite a new Middle Eastern one. They have espoused an eschatological fanaticism that seeks the “death of Israel” as an apocalyptical annihilationist precursor to the Messianic coming of the twelfth Imam.

Whatever the index of measurement—state-sanctioned incitement to genocide, nuclear proliferation, state support for international terrorism—Ahmadinezhad’s Iran constitutes not only an existential threat to Israel and the Jewish people, but also a threat to Middle East and international peace and security. Moreover, Ahmadinezhad’s Iran is also a major violator of the rights of its own citizens, reminding us of the principle that countries that do not respect the rights of their own citizens are unlikely to respect the rights of theirs neighbors.

The Iranian threat is as pervasive as it is persistent and as serious as it is substantial, threatening not only Israel and world Jewry but international peace and security. But it can be addressed and redressed. What is lacking is a comprehensive, sustained and multi-layered strategy led by the United Nations Security Council and the international community as a whole.

The Scope of the Iranian Threat
Since its nuclear enrichment program was revealed in 2003, Iran has rejected offers from the international community to cooperate in the development of the peaceful uses of atomic energy, including a range of economic incentives, while continuing to defy the international community. In particular, it has repudiated U.N. Security Council Resolutions 1696, 1737 and 1747 passed in July 2006, December 2006 and March 2007, respectively.

As Iran dismisses the U.N.’s authority, there have been a series of ominous developments. The most recent came on May 25, 2007, when the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency (I.A.E.A.) reported that Iran sharply accelerated its uranium enrichment program, such that there were four times as many centrifuges on May 25 as had been reported in February 2007. Iran has also halted its cooperation with U.N. inspectors and the head of the IAEA, Mohamed El Baradei (who is normally circumspect in his remarks), said that Iran was proceeding at a pace at which it could enrich enough uranium to make atomic bombs by 2010. Other intelligence sources have said that Iran could have bomb-making capability as early as 2008.

On that same May day, Iranian President Ahmadinezhad said that “Iran will never retreat even one step” from its program to develop nuclear weapons and warned again about Israel being “uprooted” from the Middle East.

A nuclear-armed Iran would constitute a direct threat to the stability of the Middle East, as it may trigger a nuclear-arms race among other Middle Eastern states. What’s more, Iran’s pursuit of weapons increases the likelihood of terrorist non-state actors, including Iranian proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah, to seek or secure access to nuclear capability.

Even if such weapons are not used, the balance of power in the Middle East will be dramatically transformed. Iran’s temptation to obtain regional hegemony will increase; it could then seek to blackmail its neighbors and use the terrorist weapon more freely against Israel and Jewish targets around the world. Moreover, the regional nuclear-arms race will intensify, exacerbating the existential danger to Israel and the Jewish people.

Combating the Iranian Threat
There are a number of remedies that are authorized under United Nations institutions, such as the U.N. Security Council, and the U.N. Secretary General, as well as under U.N. Law, such as the U.N. Charter and the Genocide Convention.

First, state parties to the Genocide Convention, such as the United States, have not only a right, but a responsibility, to enforce the Convention, particularly as regards the prevention of genocide. It is astonishing that the horrific incitement to genocide by Ahmadinezhad has yet even to be addressed by the U.N. Security Council, the U.N. General Assembly, or any other body or agency of the United Nations.

Second, as a corollary, the U.N. General Assembly, meeting on September 18 for its 62nd session, should declare this genocidal incitement as a standing violation of the United Nations’ Charter, which prohibits such threats to the territorial integrity and political independence of any state.

Third, state parties should initiate in the International Court of Justice an inter-state complaint against Iran, also a state party to the Genocide Convention, for its “direct and public incitement to genocide” in violation of the Genocide Treaty.

Fourth, the situation of the international criminality of President Ahmadinezhad, and other Iranian leaders, should be referred by the U.N. Security Council to the special prosecutor of the International Criminal Court for investigation and prosecution.

Fifth, state parties to the Genocide Convention should prepare criminal indictments for President Ahmadinezhad, former President Hashemi Rafsanjani and other Iranian leaders on the basis of the “universal jurisdiction” principle embodied in the Genocide Convention.

Sixth, pursuant to the Genocide Convention and the Statute for the International Court, the U.N. Secretary General should refer the genocidal incitement of President Ahmadinezhad and other Iranian leaders to the U.N. Security Council, as a matter threatening international peace and security, pursuant to Article 99 of the U.N. Charter.

Finally, President Ahmadinezhad and other designated Iranian leaders should be placed on a “watch list” by concerned countries preventing their entrance as “inadmissible persons.”

A Comprehensive Security Council Resolution
While Iranian nuclear enrichment continues to accelerate, and a nuclear weapons capability may be only a year away, the international response proceeds in slow motion. Accordingly, given the continued defiance by Iran, the U.N. Security Council should now move to adopt an enhanced and targeted resolution that will include the following components.

1. Target the vulnerable oil and gas industrial sectors. International economic sanctions will only be effective if they have a impact on Iran’s lucrative energy sectors including, in particular, the Iranian engineering giant Khatam-ol-Anbia, the nerve center of the Iranian natural gas and oil pipeline industry.

2. Target the banking and military-industrial sectors. The previous U.N. Security Council Resolutions only froze the accounts of Sepah, Iran’s fourth-largest bank. However, several other Iranian banks, including Bank Melli, Bank Saderat and the Central Bank of Iran, should have their funds frozen overseas and sanctioned with a ban on doing business with them. The massive military-industrial complex must be targeted, as it is controlled by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, who are involved directly with Iran’s proliferation activities and increasingly in control of the economy.

3. Implement the sanctions regime adopted by the U.N. In particular, Europe should leverage its $20 billion in loans to Iran while member states of the international community should withdraw any export credits respecting the trading with and financing of the Iran economy.

4. Treat President Ahmadinezhad and the officers of his regime as “inadmissible persons,” unable to enter countries to spread their message of hatred beyond Iran’s borders. There should be no sanctuary for those who incite to genocide or commit crimes against humanity, or seek to acquire nuclear weapons for that purpose or other nefarious means.

5. Impose a two-way arms embargo. The flow of weapons, both into and out of Iran, must be stopped. A complete embargo would prevent the weapons entering Iran from being used for terror, just as cutting off the cash flow from arms sales would prevent its financing.

6. Establish a U.N. monitoring team to ensure compliance with these sanctions and to verify that member states obey what has been agreed upon. Without such follow-up, any new sanctions risk amounting to little more than words on paper, lacking any practical effect on their object.

7. Enforce the foreign asset forfeiture that has been imposed on 23 Iranian persons and entities by the European Union. The U.N. should incorporate this list into its own, putting an end to financial safe havens for those who bankroll genocide.

In a word, Iran needs to be shut out from the international financial system until compliance is achieved. The previous U.N. sanctions must be followed- up in the form of tougher sanctions that go after a broader range of banks, companies and industries that deal directly with nuclear capacity, energy, and financing of terror and those supporting it. Iran is well integrated into the world economy—and it has survived the symbolic sanctions unscathed. Real sanctions would leave the economy vulnerable, bringing the goals of such sanctions to fruition.

Divestment
As a complementary support system to comprehensive U.N.-sponsored economic and financial sanctions, it is a necessity to encourage divestment from companies, institutions and entities doing businesses in Iran. Such a campaign would exert considerable pressure on those in the Iranian leadership who are responsible for the public incitement to genocide, the acceleration of uranium enrichment to achieve nuclear capacity and its state-sponsorship of international terrorism.

The United States has taken the lead in developing concentrated divestment campaigns targeting specific Iranian entities. Indeed, in the U.S., the divestment campaign is part of a broader push to encourage divestment from companies doing business with countries that sponsor terrorism. For example, bills have been introduced in the U.S. Congress and individual states to order pension funds to divest themselves of any Iranian interests. A bill introduced on May 16, 2007, also seeks to protect fund managers from shareholder lawsuits should the funds divest interest in energy companies doing business with Iran.

An international divestment would send a clear message to the leadership in Iran: its state-sanctioned incitement to genocide, its uranium enrichment program and its terrorist financing are not only violations of international law and a threat to international peace and security, but also utterly prejudicial to the national interests of Iran and Iranians themselves.

Congressional and Other Parliamentary Initiatives
If the United Nations Security Council and other U.N. agencies do not act, on their own initiative, to bring Ahmadinezhad and the Iranian leadership to account, the developing initiatives in the U.S. Congress and other parliaments may yet prevail upon the U. N. to undertake the necessary actions.

For example, on June 20, 2007, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H. Con. Res. 21 by a sweeping 411-2 vote. Although nonbinding, this measure calls on the Security Council to charge Iranian President Ahmadinezhad with violating the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and the U.N. Charter “because of his calls for the destruction of the State of Israel.” Similarly, Canada’s House of Commons’ Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on International Human Rights passed a motion to refer the “direct and public incitement to genocide” by Iranian officials, including President Ahmadinezhad, to the United Nations.

These legislative initiatives have not only an important symbolic value; rather, they signify a finding, a legal determination, that Iranian leadership is engaged in incitement to genocide. They are representative of a growing consensus that Iranian officials have violated prohibitions of the Genocide Convention and the Treaty for an International Criminal Court, and should be duly addressed through the U.N. system. Beyond North America, a similar motion is now before the United Kingdom’s Parliament and is moving forward in Australia.

Public Diplomacy
It is important not to conflate Ahmadinezhad’s Iran with the Iran many of its citizens wish to see established as a free, democratic state living at peace with its neighbors. Experts speak hopefully of the forces of change working within Iran, though, admittedly, there are also those who regard the authoritarian control and repression of the extremist Iranian leadership as overriding. Yet, Iranian scholars such as McGill Law Professor Payam Akhavan, a board member of the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center at Yale University, have stated that many of the fissures we are witnessing in Iran may well be the “dying gasp” of a regime that has lost touch with the majority of its Iranian citizens.

Accordingly, the appropriate public diplomacy should support the dynamic civil society struggling to have its voice heard, while reflecting the necessity of isolating, and holding accountable at the same time, the authoritarian regime of President Ahmadinezhad. The international community should support the Iranian civil society’s promotion of democracy, human rights, good governance and the rule of law in Iran.

The list of initiatives suggested here constitutes a necessary set of strategic actions in the interest of the protection of Israel, the promotion of international peace and security, and the long-term interests of the state and people of Iran itself. But let there be no mistake: time is running out. We must act now.

FORMER CHINESE NATIONAL CONVICTED FOR

COMMITTING ECONOMIC ESPIONAGE TO BENEFIT

CHINA NAVY RESEARCH CENTER IN BEIJING

AND FOR VIOLATING THE ARMS EXPORT CONTROL ACT

First Conviction in the Country Involving Source Code Under the Arms Export Control Act

WASHINGTON– Xiaodong Sheldon Meng, 42, formerly a resident of Beijing, China, and resident of Cupertino, Calif., pleaded guilty yesterday to violating the Foreign Economic Espionage and violating the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), announced Assistant Attorney General for National Security Kenneth L. Wainstein and Scott N. Schools U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California.

The defendant entered into a plea agreement whereby he pleaded guilty to Count Five (EEA) and Count Seven (AECA) of a superseding indictment that had been filed on December 13, 2006.

Count Five charged that Meng violated the EEA by possessing a trade secret belonging to Quantum3D, a San Jose company by whom he was formerly employed, intending and knowing that this possession would benefit a foreign government, instrumentality, or agent, namely the People’s Republic of China ("PRC") Navy Research Center.
The trade secret at issue, known as "Mantis," is a Quantum3D product used to simulate real world motion for military training purposes. Meng installed a demonstration unit of Mantis on the PRC Navy site. Meng also altered Mantis to make it appear as if it belonged to ORAD, Meng’s new employer, a competitor of Quantum3D based in PRC. This altered version of Mantis was included as part of the demonstration project in the PRC.
Count Seven charged that defendant Meng knowingly and willfully violated the AECA and ITAR when he exported "viXsen" source code, a Quantum 3D product that is a designated defense article on the United States Munitions List, and for which Meng had no Department of State export license. viXsen is a visual simulation software program used for training military fighter pilots.

United States Attorney Scott N. Schools noted that this prosecution is the result of a nearly three-year joint investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property (CHIP) Unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) - Office of Investigations, as well as Customs & Border Protection (CBP). The Department of State and the Department of Defense also provided valuable assistance on the case.
"This conviction, the first in the nation for illegal exports of military-related source code, demonstrates the importance of safeguarding our nation’s military secrets and should serve notice to others who would compromise our national security for profit," said Assistant Attorney General for National Security Kenneth L. Wainstein. "This case is the latest evidence of the Department’s enhanced investigative and prosecutorial efforts to keep America’s critical technology from falling into the wrong hands."

"One of ICE’s top priorities is ensuring that U.S. military products and sensitive technology does not fall into the hands of those who might inflict harm upon America or its allies," said Julie L. Myers, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for ICE. "These items, such as the proprietary source code stolen and altered by the defendant in this case, are controlled in the interest of national security. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners and industry to enforce U.S. technology export laws."

"The economic -- and often national -- security of the United States rests largely upon a foundation of technological superiority, and to maintain that superiority our trade secrets must be protected with the fervency with which we guard other vital interests," said Charlene B. Thornton, special agent in charge of the FBI’s San Francisco office. "The successful prosecution of Mr. Meng is a blow to those who seek to circumvent the long and costly process of research and development to gain a technological advantage through lies, deceit, and theft; it is a victory in the struggle to ensure the economic security of Silicon Valley and the United States."

Quantum3D, Inc. has cooperated fully in the government's investigation. A company official noted that the company "believes that enforcement of export and trade secret laws is critical to the functioning of our industry and we’re pleased to work with the government in these efforts."

The U.S. Attorney’s Offices in the Northern District of Alabama, District of Minnesota, and Middle District of Florida also joined the plea agreement as some of the conduct in the case occurred in those jurisdictions.

Defendant Meng is scheduled to be sentenced before United States District Judge Jeremy Fogel in San Jose on January 23, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. Meng is currently out of custody on $500,000 bond.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, the maximum term of imprisonment is twenty-four months. Meng also is subject to a maximum fine of $500,000 on the Economic Espionage Act conviction and a maximum fine of $1,000,000 on the Arm Export Control Act conviction, and a three-year term of supervised release. However, any sentence following conviction would be imposed by the court after consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and the federal statute governing the imposition of a sentence, 18 U.S.C. § 3553.

Prior Economic Espionage Prosecutions:

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the Meng case is the second conviction and only the third case charging violation of the Economic Espionage Act (EEA) of 1996, under 18 U.S.C. § 1831. Both EEA convictions have been obtained within the last nine months by the CHIP Unit in the Northern District of California.

The first economic espionage indictment was returned on May 8, 2001, in the Northern District of Ohio in United States v. Okamoto and Serizawa. (For more information: http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/cybercrime/Okamoto_SerizawaIndict.htm).

Dayton Redux?

Ousted British Prime Minister Tony Blair is now envoy to the "peace process." In reality, he is envoy to Abu Mazen. According to The New York Times, his mandate is, "mobilizing international assistance... securing financing for Palestinian institutions and governing tasks, and hashing out plans to promote Palestinian economic development." As if Palestinians - the world's largest per capita recipients of international aid and recipients in sum of more money than Europe under the Marshall Plan - require more of that and not an elemental restructuring of a hateful nationalist ideology that has swallowed its own children in pursuit of the destruction of other people and their children.

Tony Blair as the economic/institutional envoy to the Palestinians parallels the role of U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Dayton as the military envoy. Had anyone noticed until this week that the former economic/institutional envoy, Sir James Wolfenson, QUIT more than a year ago, citing frustration with the Palestinians? It must take a LOT to frustrate a former President of the World Bank. And a LOT to frustrate an American general officer. But Lt. Gen. Dayton's predecessor, Lt. Gen. William Ward, told Congress upon leaving his job that the Palestinians had not met a single one of his conditions for success despite his best efforts.

We assume they were pretty good efforts, as were those of Mr. Wolfenson and Lt. Gen. Dayton - and as will be those of Prime Minister Blair. One should assume, then, that the flaw lies in the mission, not in the men.

"Hashing out plans to promote Palestinian economic development"? Looking around the Arab world, would a sensible businessman put his money in Gaza or Jenin? No. He would go to Amman with its educated workforce, Qualified Industrial Zones and a king dedicated to modernizing banking and trade. Or he would go to Tunisia, a truly moderate country that spends the lion's share of its budget on education and healthcare. Perhaps our businessman wants to invest to make a statement. Then he would go to Lebanon, which is trying desperately to hold together as a multi-ethnic, multi-religious democracy in the face of subversion from Syria and Iran.

"Securing financing for Palestinian institutions and governing tasks"? Does that mean enhancing the EU's ongoing program to pay Palestinian civil servant salaries - including to those in the government in Gaza now working for Hamas? Paying the state-supported clergy - who encouraged the trashing of the lone Gaza Christian church and the desecration of its holy objects? Paying teacher salaries? Will it include those in the West Bank as well as Gaza who teach from rabidly anti-Semitic and anti-Western texts, ensuring the economic failure of yet another generation of Palestinians - or at least those that survive the siren call of martyrdom?

Granting that the Fatah Finance Minister is relatively attractive to Westerners, he stands in front of a sinkhole of the Palestinians' own making. No other people asked for and received half as much money, time, skill or forbearance from the civilized world, including from those is would destroy. And it is hard to imagine another people wasting it in such an orgy of blood and hate.

Bethlehem - Ma'an - Speaker of Fatah bloc in the Palestinian Legislative
Council (PLC), Azzam Al-Ahmad, said on Monday that notions of "elimination
and replacement" dominated Hamas' understanding of the nature of elections.

Al-Ahmad held a press conference in Ramallah, in the central West Bank, in
order to comment on the public address of deposed Prime Minister, Ismail
Haniyeh, on Sunday. Al-Ahmad said that Hamas devastated all Palestinian
institutions.

Al-Ahmad accused Hamas of disabling the PLC by being antagonistic towards
the political partnership. "Hamas wants to establish a state which they do
not deserve and they must talk reasonably about the law."

Al-Ahmad alleged that those who committed the military coup in Gaza are the
same people that established the Hamas-affiliated Executive Force and
refused to assimilate it into the Palestinian security forces.

"The mutiny trend within Hamas, comprises those who rejected the Mecca
agreement and dubbed it 'Al-Hudaybiya Reconciliation' [a treaty between the
prophet Mohammad and his rival clan of Quraysh, who opposed Islam]," says
Al-Ahmad.

Al-Ahmad added, "We established a joint operation room, something which we
had agreed in a meeting in the presence of President Abbas, Haniyeh, myself
and [Abbas aide] Tayeb Abdel Rahim, yet Hamas insisted on knowing the
personal details of the security services' members, in order to prepare for
their coup."

Al-Ahmad also claimed that "Israel has destroyed the security services in
order to pave the way for Hamas to finish and subdue them.

"We will provide documents to prove that countries, parties and Palestinian
factions intended to distort the image of the Palestinian people and show
that they can not govern themselves," Azzam Al-Ahmad says.

The Islamic practice of taqiyya, meaning "deception" or "concealment," has been refined into an art-form at a jihad training compound for African American converts near the small town of Red House in Charlotte County, Virginia.

The fifty-acre compound is easy to find since the main road leading to it has been named Sheikh Gilani Lane in honor of the guru and founder of a terrorist organization with close ties to Osama bin Laden. The Board of Supervisors of Charlotte County are either oblivious to the threat of radical Islam on American soil or clandestine advocates of the great jihad.

At the end Sheikh Gilani Lane is a sign - - barely visible through the overgrown brush - - that reads, "The Muslims of the Americas." The sign serves to make the place appear as an innocuous religious settlement, until one realizes that The Muslims of the Americas is, in reality, an outgrowth of Jamaat ul-Fuqra, an alleged sister agency to al-Qaeda.

Several weeks before 9/11, a guard house and a gate had been erected at the entrance to the Red House compound.

But the guard house and the gate are now gone, and no sentries - - armed or otherwise - - are in sight, that is until you get well inside the complex of old trailers and pre-fab shanties. The only person to be seen in the the compound is an African American crone in a full black burqa sans the face cover known as a hijab. The day is hot and humid and the burqa serves to give the wizened old woman the appearance of a wayside witch from a Grimm's fairy tale.

"The men are all gone," the crone says from a park bench. "No one is here."

Road and observation tower

The Red House compound certainly appears deserted. A few mobile homes, several rusty old trailers, and a few mounds of debris among waist-high weeds remain along an old dirt road that runs through the Islamic village, but there appears to be little of interest, let alone concern.

As soon as the investigators park their car and trek into compound, the old woman removes a mobile phone from a sachet and dials a number.

In a matter of minutes, a pick-up truck appears at the entranceway. Two young African Americans dressed in skull caps and jalabiyahs emerge from the vehicle. "What are you doing here?" they ask.

Jamal, an Egyptian journalist, says in Arabic, "I'm here to see the Imam. Where does he live?"

One of the young men, whose Arabic name translates as "Slave of God", indicates that the Imam is not in and he should knock on the door of a ramshackle blue structure where he was told "Ahmed", one of the Elders may be found.

Jamal proceeds to the structure and rings the bell, but no one answers. Another member of our investigative team knocks at the doors of the trailers and mobile homes but there is no response. Some of the windows to the homes have been holed up with bricks save for openings that are ideal for assault rifles.

The young African Americans, who have shown up on the scene, are becoming agitated. They begin to make calls on their cell phones.

Then something miraculous happens.

At the Imam's residence, Muslim men begin to emerge in droves from a small storage shed attached to the house. It seems like a scene from a Marx Brothers movie in which dozens of people pour out of a closet. The investigators are suddenly surrounded by forty or fifty members of the complex in Islamic gowns and white skullcaps.

"What brings you here?" they ask.

"We heard about the village," Jamal says, "and wanted to pay a visit. I thought I could stop by for evening prayers."

"The evening prayers are over," says one of the newly materialized men, who could be a professional body builder.

In the blink of an eye, another wondrous thing occurs.

Hundreds of more African Americans in Islamic garb materialize from the dense forests, the high grass of the open meadows, and the rusty trailers that just seconds ago appeared to be deserted.

A covey of late model cars and SUV's converge on the compound from a network of dirt roads. The Muslims who emerge from the vehicles appear more affluent than the others. The men wear white halabiyahs with matching head coverings. The women are dressed in colorful caftans and flowing abayas. They seem to be models from the Crescent Moon boutique.

"Are you the police?" a female villager asks through the shaded window of the Imam's residence.

"No," Jamal answers. "We just stopped by to join in prayer."

"This is not a place for tourists," screeches the woman in the Imam's house, "and we don't like you taking pictures of our houses and automobiles."

By this time, the Red House compound is swarming with hundreds of Muslim men, women, and children - - and several appear to be deeply agitated by the intruders.

Jamal produces a card from a radical imam he had met the day before at the radical Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Falls Church. It serves as a ticket out of the place.

What is taking place in the Red House complex? Is the complex amidst the rolling hills of southern Virginia a peaceful Islamic village where devout Muslims have gathered to retreat from the hustle and bustle of contemporary American life in order to pray, meditate, and to live in strict accordance with the traditions of their faith? Or is it something more sinister - - something that should alarm every American who is concerned about the threat of radical Islam?

These factors are clear:

(1). There is an underground bunker at the complex that may be used for paramilitary training and possibly to harbor deadly weapons for use in the great jihad against Christians and Jews. Twenty-four members of this Jamaat ul-Fuqra complex already have been arrested for trafficking in illegal firearms, including the ammunition for AK-47s.

(2). Members of the compound have been sent to Pakistan and Afghanistan for specialized training in guerilla warfare - - a fact confirmed by Thomas P. Gallagher, a Special Agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.

(3). The Red House compound regularly receives visits from suspicious guests from Egypt, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan.

(4). The Red House cell of ul-Fuqra has metastasized so that similar Islamic compounds have popped up in neighboring Prince George and Campbell Counties. The 25 acre facility in Prince George County is situated on Mahareen Road, a name selected by the Muslim newcomers and duly approved by the local ordinance officials. Mahareen is the plural of the Arabic mahar, meaning "clever one." The facility in Campbell County is considerably larger, occupying more than 100 acres. An additional compound reportedly has materialized in Bedford County near the city of Roanoke.

(5). Several Virginia compounds appear to possess obstacle courses, and firing ranges.

(6). Members of the compounds have been known to refer to themselves as "soldiers of Allah" and "Mohammad's commandos."

(7) What happens in the Red House compound stays in the Red House compound. The members of the radical Islamic community rarely appear in the nearby town; conduct little business with local merchants; and stay to themselves.

Mosque and Learning Center

The Muslims of the Americas, the tax-exempt corporation which owns and operates the Red House compound, was formed in 1980 by Pakistani cleric Sheikh Mubarak Ali Gilani. It is, according to an official report, a "front organization" for terrorist activities. A 2005 Homeland Security report predicts that the Muslims of the Americas will sponsor a major terrorist attack on American soil.

The parent organization of The Muslims of the Americas is Jamaat ul-Fuqra or "community of the impoverished" which retains headquarters in Lahore, Pakistan. The purpose of Jamaat ul-Fuqra, as established by Sheikh Gilani, is not to serve some beneficent good for the cause of the impoverished but rather to "purify" Islam through violence.

A quack practitioner of something called "Quranic psychiatry, Sheikh Gilani refers to himself as "the sixth Sultan ul Faqr." The Sheikh claims to have supernatural powers and to receive regular visits from "non-human beings." In 1979, Gilani came to believe that he could begin the processing of purifying Islam through violence with the aid of socially disgruntled and economically disenfranchised blacks within the inner cities of New York and New Jersey. The basis of this belief was Gilani conviction that a sizeable number of African Americans fostered an innate hatred of the United States and could be easily convinced to further the cause of global jihad. Many may have viewed Gilano's mission as a cockamamie scheme that smacked of racism, but it worked like a hypnotic charm from Scheherazade.

At the al-Farouq mosque in Brooklyn, a dingy establishment at 554 Atlantic Avenue, Gilani, sporting ammunition belts, spoke of Islam as the cure for all societal ills and called upon the young men in attendance to take up arms in the holy war against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Hundreds answered the call and headed off to a training camp in Abbotabad, Pakistan that had been established by Osama bin Laden and other members of the mujahadeen.

Knowing the need for new recruits, Gilani turned to the penal system and focused his attention on converting incarcerated blacks to his radical Islamic doctrine. Imams and religious instructors were dispatched to local, state, and federal prison facilities to accomplish this objective. The results were mind-boggling. Thousands converted on a weekly basis, drawn to the offers of protection, special meals, and release from work detail for daily prayers and the entire month of Ramadan.

Gilani soon came to the realization that it would be financially advantageous to train new recruits for the holy war on American soil rather than to pay the freight of sending them to Pakistan, and the sites of his other training camps throughout the world. And so, Islamberg in Hancock, New York came into being. Soon other hamaats were established in such places as Hyattsville, Maryland; Falls Church, Virginia; Macon, Georgia; York, South Carolina; Dover, Tennessee; Buena Vista, Colorado; Talihina, Oklahoma; Tulane Country, California; Commerce, California; and Onalaska, Washington. The Red House compound cropped up in 1993. Others are under construction, including an expansive facility in Sherman, Pennsylvania. How many hamaats are now in place throughout the United States is anyone's guess. A low-ball figure is 38.

Before becoming a citizen of the Red House compound or any of the other Fuqra communities, the recruits - - primarily inner city black men who became converts in prison - - are compelled to sign an oath that reads: "I shall always hear and obey, and whenever given the command, I shall readily fight for Allah's sake." They are also obliged to contribute 70% of their welfare checks and other sources of income to Muslims of the Americas, Inc.

Mission accomplished among the African Americans, Sheikh Gilani returned to his native Lahore circa 1990. In December 1993, he was an honored guest at an international gathering of jihadis at the residence of Hassan al-Turabi in Khartoum. At the gathering, attended by members of al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the Popular and Democratic Fronts for the Liberation of Palestine, Sheikh Gilani, Osama bin Laden, and other prominent terrorist leaders were caught on film chanting, "Down, down with the USA!" "Down, down with the CIA," and "Death to the Jews."

Over the years, numerous members of Jamaat ul-Fuqra have been convicted in US courts of such crimes as conspiracy to commit murder, firebombing, gun smuggling, and workers' compensation fraud. Others remain leading suspects in criminal cases throughout the country, including ten unsolved assassinations and seventeen fire-bombings between 1979 and 1990. Associates of the group were also instrumental in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.

The criminal charges against the group and the criminal convictions are not things of the past. In 2001, a 19 year-old former resident of the Red House compound was charged with the first-degree murder in the shooting of a sheriff's deputy in California. By 2004 federal investigators uncovered evidence that linked both the DC "sniper killer" John Allen Muhammed and "Shoe Bomber" Richard Reid to the group and reports surfaced that Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was captured and beheaded in the process of attempting to obtain an interview with Sheikh Gilani in Pakistan.

Even though Jamaat ul-Fuqra has been involved in bloody bombings and sundry criminal activities, recruited thousands of members from federal and state penal systems, and appears to be operating paramilitary facilities for militant Muslims, the terror organization remains to be placed on the official US Terror Watch List, and The Muslims of the Americas continue to operate, flourish, and expand as a legitimate nonprofit, tax-deductible charity.

Meanwhile, the hills of rural Virginia are alive with the sound of jihad.

But few are listening.
