THE DECLINE OF THE UNITED STATES

How Long Do We Have??

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government."

"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury."

"From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years."

"During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. from bondage to spiritual faith;
2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
3. from courage to liberty;
4. from liberty to abundance;
5. from abundance to complacency;
6. from complacency to apathy;
7. from apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage"

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Gore: 19; Bush: 29

Square miles of land won by: Gore: 580,000; Bush: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Gore: 127 million; Bush: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Gore:
13.2; Bush: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's and they vote, then we can say good-bye to the USA in fewer than five years.

Pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Thanks for reading.

U.S. AMBASSADOR RICHARD JONES MUST BE RECALLED

I commented on Ambassador Jones comments as soon as they were made public, and before any so-called "apology" on his part. Ruth Matar from Women in Green comments below on Jones and his apology and her comments reflect my thoughts exactly. B'nai Elim Blogmaster

IS U.S. AMBASSADOR RICHARD JONES AN ANTISEMITE?

Letter from Ruth Matar (Women in Green) Jerusalem
Thursday, May 31, 2007

On May 28, 2007 Arutz Sheva News published an interesting article about US Ambassador Richard Jones' recent remarks. It is republished here in its entirety:

Jones Video Adds Fuel to Pollard Fire
by Hillel Fendel

(IsraelNN.com) With the publication of a video of US Ambassador to Israel Richard Jones' remarks against Jonathan Pollard, calls increase for a retraction and correction - and for clemency for Pollard.

The Justice for Jonathan Pollard (J4JP) organization has circulated a video link at which Ambassador Richard Jones can be seen and heard making his infamous remarks about Pollard. Speaking last week at a Bar Ilan University conference on US-Israeli relations, Jones said twice that Pollard committed treason against the United States. He added bitingly that "it came out clearly in the trial that Jonathan Pollard took money" and that he "sold out" his country.

While J4JP easily and quickly rebutted these claims, other accusations by Jones were less widely publicized. He implied that the American people were punishing Israel itself when he said, "I know he was doing this [spying] for a friend [Israel - ed.], but that's what makes this even more emotional for Americans - that a friend would cooperate in aiding and abetting someone who is committing treason against his own country."

Jones's final biting comment, coming in the context of the above remark, was the most explosive of all: "The fact that he wasn't executed is the mercy that Jonathan Pollard will receive." The double implication that Pollard deserved to be put to death, even though he was convicted on only one count of passing classified information to a friendly nation, and that he would never be freed, had Pollard supporters up in arms and demanding an apology.

The pressure was apparently strong enough to elicit an apology within a matter of hours. Jones said his remarks were "misinformed and misleading," and "did not reflect my personal views nor those of the Bush Administration."

Apology not Accepted by All

The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations welcomed the apology the next day. Though it reiterated its call for Pollard's quick release, the organization said, "We accept Ambassador Jones' explanation and retraction and believe that it puts this matter to rest."
Other groups, however, were less willing to bury the issue. Rabbi Pesach Lerner, Executive Vice President of the National Council of Young Israel, wrote, "I believe the case cannot be closed. The apology, as is, is still missing a correction of Jones' comments. His facts were wrong [and] he needs to admit that... We must demand a full retraction, correction and perhaps an official inquiry into the sources of his information, the source of his directive to respond with such lies, etc."

J4JP noted that though Jones apologized for daring to say that the US had shown mercy in not executing Jonathan - who never faced anything near a death penalty - he "did not apologize for falsely accusing him of treason or of having taken money. These false charges are soundly contradicted by Jonathan's indictment and by his sentencing transcript, and most important of all by Israel's formal recognition of him as her agent."

Some in the Israeli press, too, were unhappy with the apology - and with Israel's lukewarm response. Two major Israeli dailies, Yediot Acharonot and Haaretz, ran strikingly similar editorials saying that if Israel were "self-respecting" [Haaretz] or "well administered" [Yediot], it would have summoned Jones to the Foreign Ministry and demanded a clarification of his statements.

"It's difficult to accept or understand the American lust for revenge when it comes to Pollard," wrote Yossi Melman of Haaretz. "There's something irrational about it. Jones's remarks were rude and bereft of diplomatic tact, reflecting this American pathology that aspires to keep Pollard from ever being pardoned. Even though Jones has apologized, he deserves to be denounced. By essentially ignoring his comments, Israel is adding insult to the injury it has already done Pollard."

Chief Rabbi Metzger Takes up the Cause in the US

Israel's Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger, currently on a short visit to the New York Jewish communities of Jamaica Estates and Great Neck, is making the most of the recent developments to ask American Jewry to redouble their efforts to work for Pollard's release. The rabbi said today that after he visited Pollard in prison over two years ago, he wrote a letter to US President Bush asking for clemency - and had it signed by every living past and present Israeli chief rabbi.

"I planned to give it by hand to the President," Rabbi Metzger said, "but we received a message that it would be better not to bring it because the subject was too [sensitive] - and so I gave it to the US Ambassador, and he promised that he would give it to the President, but as of now, I have not yet received an answer... We have only two ways to act: Jews all over the world must put a lot of pressure on President Bush as his term draws to a close, and we must pray to G-d that He will save Jonathan's life and rescue him."

Pollard's wife Esther, speaking on the Knesset television channel last week, said that Prime Minister Olmert could capitalize on the situation and make up for past government inaction by raising the matter quietly with President Bush and asking for the release of Pollard as an Israeli agent.

****

MY COMMENTS:

It seems that there was strong pressure from various quarters on US Ambassador to Israel, Richard Jones, for his infamous remarks about Pollard.

Apparently the pressure was strong enough to elicit an apology from Ambassador Jones within a matter of hours. Ambassador Jones said his remarks were "MISINFORMED AND MISLEADING," and "DID NOT REFLECT MY PERSONAL VIEWS, NOR THOSE OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION."

Then, whose views was Jones expressing? I think this is the most incredible non-apology I have ever come across!

Even the two major Israeli dailies, Yediot Acharonot and Haaretz ran editorials demanding that at the very least Jones be summoned to the Foreign Ministry and that a clarification of his statements be required. However, there is no chance for that with Tzippi Livni as head of the Foreign Ministry, who, if an American official spat in her face, would say: "It's raining"!

US Ambassador Jones is said to have officially apologized, even though his apology is not really genuine. Therefore Ambassador Jones deserves to be denounced!

By ignoring his untrue and vicious comments Israel is, in effect, accepting thinly veiled anti-Semitism.

In all fairness, it behooves us to write President George Bush and ask for what reason he does not pardon Jonathan Pollard, when individuals who have done real harm to the United States have gotten very light punishments. Even a former Director of Central Intelligence, James Woolsey, has said emphatically that Pollard has been punished enough.

The United States State Department has a long record of anti-Semitism. For instance, the US State Department led by Breckinridge Long, during the Holocaust, was responsible for the deaths of many Jews.

As written by David S. Wyman in his book titled "A Race against Death" (2002):
"The State Department not only had failed to pursue rescue opportunities, but had even obstructed rescue efforts that American Jewish organizations attempted on their own. Breckinridge Long and the State Department had secretly cut immigration to less than 10% of the quotas. In addition, in early 1943, a critically important channel for the flow of Holocaust information out of Europe to the United States was blocked by the State Department, which instructed the American Legation in Switzerland to stop transmitting such information."

Is anti-Semitism still alive and well in the State Department and among its representatives?

Dear Friends,

All justice seeking individuals must do all they can to work for Pollard's release from prison. We implore you: write to your representatives in the US and to President Bush telling them we demand Justice for Jonathan Pollard!

With Blessings and Love for Israel,

Ruth Matar

This is a National Disgrace - The United States Should Be Ashamed !!!

After 40 Years, U.S. Avoids Jerusalem Reunification Day

After 40 Years, U.S. Avoids Jerusalem Reunification Day

Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu - May 16, 2007
IsraelNationalNews.com

After 40 Years, U.S. Avoids Jerusalem Reunification Day

The United States will avoid Jerusalem Reunification Day festivities this week despite a 12-year-old Congressional bill calling for the American embassy to be located in the capital. Since then, every President has exercised a waiver in the bill allowing the move to be deferred for a renewable period of six months.
Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni insisted that the "connection between Israel and Jerusalem is inseparable" despite the boycott by the U.S. and most of the international community. Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski went further and declared, "Anyone who doesn't recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel does not recognize the State of Israel."

American officials, including former Ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk, have stated that moving the embassy is not likely to happen until there is a final peace agreement with the Palestinian Authority (PA).

The U.S. did not issue an official statement explaining why the current Ambassador, Richard Jones will not be attending the ceremonies, but Ambassador Dr. Harald Kindermann from Germany, which heads the European Union (EU) this year, specifically said EU countries will not participate because of Arab claims of sovereignty over eastern Jerusalem, which includes the Old City.

The Foreign Ministry said Sunday it is "unhappy and disappointed" that most delegations announced they were not coming to the festivities but added that officials from several embassies will attend.

Two American lawmakers have launched an effort to put a stop to the continuing deferral of the Congressional bill to move the embassy from Tel Aviv. Republican House of Representatives members Joe Wilson and Mike Pence recently introduced a resolution stating that Jerusalem "must remain an undivided city in which the rights of every ethnic and religious group are protected as they have been by Israel during the past 40 years."

The new resolution "strongly urges" American President George W. Bush to stop exercising the waiver to delay the move of the embassy. It also calls on him and American Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to "repeatedly affirm publicly, as a matter of United States policy, that Jerusalem must remain the undivided capital of the State of Israel."

The congressmen also noted that the 2003 Foreign Relations Authorization Act directs that the birth of any U.S. citizen born in Jerusalem should be recorded as "Jerusalem, Israel" upon the request of the citizen or his or her guardian.

That requirement has never been implemented, and the city is listed without its being designated that it is in Israel.

Israel officially incorporated all of Jerusalem into the municipality in 1980, a move that caused virtually all of the embassies that had been located in Jerusalem to move away. The last holdouts were El Salvador and Costa Rica, which pulled out several months ago.

Australian gun control

Australian gun control

Note: If this statistical report is accurate, then
those of us who are residing in the United States
had better rethink any support for so-called
gun control measures now before Congress. We
must not relinquish our rightes to own and bear
firearms. To do so would be insanity. B'E Blogmaster

"Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts...
From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia

Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the
real figures from Down Under. It has now been
12 months since gun owners
in Australia were forced
by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal
firearms to be destroyed by our own government,
a program costing Australia taxpayers more than
$500 million dollars.

The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent ;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent
(yes, 44 percent)! In the state of Victoria alone,
homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.

(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned
them in, the criminals did not and criminals still
possess their guns!)

While figures over the previous 25 years showed
a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms,
this has changed drastically upward in the past
12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed
that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in
break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the
resident is at home.

Australian politicians are at a loss to explain
how public safety has decreased, after such
monumental effort and expense was expended
in "successfully ridding Australian society of
guns." You won't see this on the American
evening news or hear your governor or members
of the State Assembly disseminating this
information. The Australian experience speaks
for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens
save lives and property and, yes, gun-control
laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it's too late!"

Anti-Israel Groups Exposed - Washington, D.C.

Anti-Israel ads in Washington

Subway system in US capital to host 20 poster ads filled with anti-Israel rhetoric
Yaakov Lappin

Commuters travelling on Washington DC's subway will be inundated with posters placed by an anti-Israel organization, the Canadian Jewish News (CJN) reported.

The 'US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation' placed 20 poster ads showing "an imposing tank pointing its main firing turret at a child with a schoolbag walking along a dirt road," the CJN said.

"'Imagine if this were your child's path to school. Palestinians don't have to imagine,' the poster states, before continuing to call for an end to US aid for 'Israel's brutal military occupation paid for by US taxpayers like you,'" the report added.

It said that "CBS Outdoor, the New York-based firm that places in-station advertising for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), at first refused to consider the poster, but eventually relented to pressure from WMATA and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)."

The report quoted CBS Outdoor's Vice Executive, Jodi Senese, who is Jewish, as saying: "I'm very proud (of being a Jew). I thought the image was inflammatory, but I also believe in our First Amendment rights. As Jews (in America), we thrive on that right as well."

ACLU's Legal Director in Washington, Arthur Spitzer, who is also Jewish, "told the Washington Jewish Week it wasn't 'a case about Judaism or Israel¿ but about establishing someone's right to freedom of speech, which I agree with regardless of whether I agree with their particular political position,'" the report added.

U.S. CAMPAIGN TO END THE ISRAELI OCCUPATION
1101 Pennsylvania Ave. SE
Suite 204
Washington, DC
20003
Phone :202-318-1613
  • Anti-Israel coalition
  • Advocates the termination of U.S. support for Israel

The U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation (a.k.a. End the Occupation) is a coalition of groups working together "to change those U.S. policies that both sustain Israel's 39-year occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem, and deny equal rights for all. The Campaign holds annual conferences to bring its coalition members together. As of June 2000, some 214 local and national organizations had signed on to the Campaign. Among these were: Americans for Justice in Palestine; Global Exchange; the International Solidarity Movement; Middle East Children's Alliance; Palestine Right to Return Coalition (Al-Awda); American Muslims for Jerusalem; the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee; the Institute for Policy Studies; Pax Christi USA; Students for Justice in Palestine; SUSTAIN; the American Friends Service Committee; the 8th Day Center for Justice; the International Socialist Organization; BostonToPalestine; Grassroots International; the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom; Women Against Military Madness; Jews Against the Occupation; MADRE; the National Lawyers Guild; Michael Lerner's Tikkun Community; Friends of Sabeel; If Americans Knew; Christian Peacemaker Teams; Peace Action; Jews Against the Occupation; MADRE; Palestine Media Watch; and United for Peace and Justice.

In November 2002 the Campaign
published an article titled "Seeing Clearly Through a Veil of Blood," in which the author wrote that Israel owed Yasser Arafat and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) a debt of gratitude for their supposedly invaluable "support for a two-state solution. The article further stated that much anti-Jewish hatred "is fueled by the injustice of Israel's occupation of Palestine."

In July 2003, at its Second U.S. Campaign Organizers Conference, End the Occupation hosted
Nihad Awad, the Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), who has publicly declared his support for the Hamas terrorist organization.

The Campaign opposes Israel's construction of a security fence; it supports all divestment efforts intended to impose financial hardship on Israel; and it has endorsed the "
Declaration Regarding Caterpillar Violations of Human Rights," a document that impugns the U.S.-based Caterpillar Corporation for selling its machinery to the Israeli army, which in turn uses that equipment to demolish Palestinian terrorists' homes and bases of operation.

The Campaign is currently working on a "
Palestine Human Rights Litigation Project," whose focus is on a pair of class-action lawsuits against former Israeli military officials in U.S. federal district courts. Filed on behalf of Palestinian and Lebanese civilians, these suits allege that the officials are guilty of war crimes; crimes against humanity; cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment; and extrajudicial killings.

The Campaign's "
Legislative Project" urges Members of Congress to adopt a pro-Palestinian position regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The Campaign also works closely with
Palestine Media Watch to minimize media references to Palestinian terrorism and corruption, while promoting images of Palestinians as victims of Israeli oppression.

Advisory Board members of the Campaign include Dr. Joel Beinin, Professor of Middle East History at Stanford University, and Phyllis Bennis of the Institute for Policy Studies.

The Campaign is a member organization of the
United for Peace and Justice anti-war coalition, which is led by Leslie Cagan, a longtime committed socialist who aligns her politics with those of Fidel Castro's Communist Cuba.

On its website in 2006, the Campaign displayed a statement complaining that Hezbollah(a.k.a. Hizballah) had been "cast misleadingly in much media coverage" of the latter's then-recent war against Israel. "Much more than a militia," says the Campaign, "the Hizballah movement is also a political party that is a powerful actor in Lebanese politics and a provider of important social services. Not a creature of Iranian and Syrian sponsorship, Hizballah arose to battle Israels occupation of south Lebanon from 1982-2000 and, more broadly, to advocate for Lebanon ïs historically disenfranchised Shiïi Muslim community. While it has many political opponents in Lebanon, Hizballah is very much of Lebanon.www.DiscoverTheNetwork.org

ISRAEL'S BEST FRIEND - THE U.S.A.

U.S. had emergency plan for attacking Israel in 1967

By Amir Oren, Haaretz Correspondent

For some time, the United States had had an emergency plan to attack Israel, a plan updated just prior to the 1967 war, aimed at preventing Israel from expanding westward, into Sinai, or eastward, into the West Bank.

In May 1967, one of the U.S. commands was charged with the task of removing the plan from the safe, refreshing it and preparing for an order to go into action.

This unknown aspect of the war was revealed in what was originally a top-secret study conducted by the Institute for Defense Analyses in Washington. The full story is detailed in Haaretz' Independence Day Supplement.

In February 1968, an institute expert, L. Weinstein, wrote an article called "Critical Incident No. 14," about the U.S. involvement in the Middle East crisis of May-June 1967.Only 30 copies of his study were printed for distribution. Years later the material was declassified and can now be read by everyone, although details that are liable to give away sources' identities and operational ideas have remained censored.

Strike Command, the entity that was to have launched the attack on Israel, no longer exists. It was annulled in 1971 for domestic American reasons and superseded by Readiness Command, which was abolished in the 1980s in favor of Central Command (CENTCOM) which today includes forces in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan and Afghanistan; and the Special Operations Command (SOCOM).

The general who oversaw the planning in 1967 was Theodore John ("Ted") Conway, then 56 and a four-star general, the head of Strike Command.

On May 20, 1967, according to L. Weinstein's confidential study for the Institute for Defense Analyses, cable No. 5886 of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was sent to EUCOM and STRICOM. STRICOM was asked to refresh the emergency plans for intervention in an Israeli-Arab war: one plan on behalf of Israel and the other, on behalf of the Arabs.

The basis for the directive was Washington's policy of support for the existence, independence and territorial integrity of all the states of the region. This translated into adherence to the Israeli-Arab armistice lines of 1949. The policy was not to allow Egypt, or any combination of Arab states, to destroy Israel, but also not to allow Israel to expand westward, into Sinai, or eastward, into the West Bank.

The American pressure in this regard brought the IDF back from El Arish in Operation Horev in 1949 and from Sinai in 1956. A version of it would appear in Henry Kissinger's directives after the IDF encircled Egypt's Third Army at the end of the Yom Kippur War of 1973.

Conway replied to the Joint Chiefs cable four days after it was sent. He was doubtful about combat intervention, and preferred an operation to evacuate American civilians from Israel and from Arab states.

The next day, the Joint Chiefs asked Conway for his opinion about how the United States should act if the war were to be launched by an Arab action or, alternatively, by an Israeli strike.

"The ultimate objective would be to stop aggression and insure the territorial integrity of all the Middle Eastern states," he was informed in cable No. 6365 of the Joint Chiefs, with a copy to EUCOM.

Conway's reply to this, dated May 28, is described in the top-secret study as "a strong plea for complete impartiality." The United States was liable to lose its influence to the Soviets, the general warned, and therefore it must demonstrate "strict neutrality" and avoid open support for Israel.
The true importance of the Middle East lay in the American-Soviet context of the Cold War, Conway argued, and the American stance must derive from those considerations, not from "local issues."

Only as a last resort should the United States take unilateral action - and then only to put an end to the fighting. In the estimation of the STRICOM commander, the Egyptian forces were deployed defensively, whereas the Israelis were deployed in rapid-strike offensive capability.

On May 29, Conway recommended that any U.S. intervention be launched early in order to ensure the territorial integrity of all the countries involved; restoring the status quo ante would become more complicated as the attacking army captured more territory.

It might be difficult to determine which side had launched the hostilities, he noted, but the American response should be identical in both cases: a display of force, warnings to both sides, and if that should prove insufficient, "air and naval action to stabilize the situation, enforce grounding of aviation of both sides plus attacks on all moving armor or active artillery."

Following the cease-fire, U.S. ground forces would be moved in for peacekeeping missions. The return of territories would be achieved primarily by diplomatic means, with military force to be used only if "absolutely necessary."

General Earle Wheeler, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, barred the distribution of the planning concept to subordinate levels. A preliminary paper was prepared by June 5, the day the war erupted, and became outdated even before it could be used.

On June 6, when the success of the Israel Air Force was known, and as the divisions under IDF Generals Israel Tal, Ariel Sharon and Avraham Yoffe advanced into Sinai, the Joint Chiefs sent McNamara top-secret memorandum No. 315-67, recommending that the United States not intervene militarily, that it continue to work through the United Nations and bilateral diplomatic channels, including consultation with the Soviets, to stop the war, and that logistical support for all sides be suspended.

The American sigh of relief at the demise of the worst-case scenario - the danger that Israel would be destroyed - was replaced by the fear that the Arab defeat had been so crushing that the Soviets would intervene on their behalf, or at least would reap a diplomatic profit.

Because the United States did not know what Israel was aiming at, despite declarations by Eshkol and by Defense Minister Moshe Dayan that Israel had no territorial ambitions, the administration "now felt that it was necessary to limit [the Israeli] success to reasonable bounds."

Two retired IDF major generals, Israel Tal and Shlomo Gazit, who was then head of research in Military Intelligence, said recently, upon hearing the secret plan of the U.S. military, that Israel had no knowledge of this.

The IDF fought the Egyptians, the Jordanians and the Syrians without imagining that it might find itself confronting the Americans as well, in their desert camouflage fatigues.
