I am saddened to tell you that Mark (Mier) Wiles (Meir Yisroel ben Avraham [bat Sarah]), my closest and very dear friend, long time member and leader in the JDL and B'nai Elim, passed away this morning, May 22, 2006 at 1115. Meir was 62 when he lost his battle with esophageal cancer. Funeral arrangements have been made for tomorrow, May 23, 2006 at 1400, at the Hebrew Cemetery, Reno.
Mark leaves behind his Son, Joseph, who is 17 years old and a Junior in High School. Mark had a Sister who resides in upstate New York. Mark was also a single parent. We are doing all we can to help Joseph through this traumatic event. If you would like to help Joseph, please send your contributions to Joseph Wiles, at the address below.
Mark was a brave, courageous and proud Jew, in the finest traditions of Rabbi Kahane, (HY'D), and could be counted upon to be right in the center of the action.
He first joined the JDL in 1998 and for the past nine years, He held the office of Director, JDL Nevada for many years and has been on the forefront in our battles, never once shirking his responsibilities or backing down when confronting a threat to our community, and always living by the Five Principles.
He was funny, congenial, outspoken and pugnacious, with a heart of pure gold. In the parenting department, he was unsurpassed in his love and devotion to his Son. His Son, Joseph, is also a member of B'nai Elim.
I will miss my friend Mark, as will we all.
Toda rabbah,
Bill Maniaci
B'nai Elim
