"I find the direction the US is currently taking with regard to Israel extremely disturbing. ...I think it will be distasterous to redirect our long-standing 100% guarantee to back Israeli defense. Gates would sell the Israelis down the river without thinking twice. Unfortunately what these statements seem to imply is we're not prepared to stand up to Iran and we're not even hesitant to let them know that...which only encourages them all the more."
What you think of this and the conclusions drawn? fairly accurate?
"There are no guarantees that the US will prevent an Iranian nuclear attack on Israel and Iran's nuclear arsenal will contain different types of weapons. ..
[Robert Gates' replied to the Senate committee's at his confirmation hearing Tuesday: "If Iran obtains nuclear weapons no one can promise it would not use them against Israel ."
DEBKA's military sources note: This assertion presupposes that Iran will not be stopped from acquiring nuclear weapons. Furthermore, Gates spoke in the plural about nuclear weapons.
In all, he addressed three messages to Jerusalem:
1. There are no assurances that we will be able to prevent an Iranian nuclear attack on Israel.
2. Iran 's nuclear arsenal will contain different types of weapons.
3. On the nuclear issue, you are on your own; don't count on us for a response.
An urgent response by those who love and support Israel is imperative. Please contact your Congressional Delegation and protest this dramatic swing by the United States of open hostility and disaffection towards Israel. Without US support and resupply, Israel is a sitting duck. B'nai Elim Blogmaster.
"No Guarantees"???? WE HAVE NEVER ASKED FOR PROTECTION! All we ask is that the USA refrain from attacking us herself.....and desist from training and equipping our enemies for a war against Eretz Israel.
ReplyDeleteThroughout the Bushki administration's tenure, we have been told that "All options, including United States military intervention (on the behalf of the Arabs), are on the table" (re:Colin Powell-Madrid, Morroco, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia)
From our Independence in 1948, until 1969 we lived under a total, U.S. led arms embargo......history is repeating it's self. 'Tis a pity that most American politicos know nothing about history, they are in for a lot of grief when their allies become vaporised for trusting US assessments regarding Israeli military ability.
